You Can Do It
“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” - Edmund Burke
The above Edmund Burke quote was pulled from a blog by Fred Smith, founder of the Gathering. The blog is definitely worth the read. It shines light on some of those ridiculous ventures initiated by individuals who didn’t have the “common sense” to realize it can’t be done before it was too late and they proved it possible.
When it comes to giving and being generous with our resources, sometimes the hurdle really is the belief that we can’t do much. We look at our monthly budget. We see the bank balance or the paycheck value and instantly we view the task as too great and our ability to make an impact as insignificant.
But those feelings of insufficiency or inability to impact are false. We have been to the field. We have seen the faces of the people you impact with your giving. We have produced updates, insights and celebration videos showing how the gifts of all, the $5 donations along with the $5,000 gifts, have touched the lives of people in need. We have seen the impact firsthand and worked to share what we have seen through our donor awareness process. We can testify that no matter the size of the giving, eMiters are indeed making an impact on those in need and on the world!
Feelings of insufficiency and the thoughts that a little help is not enough, only work to prevent us from taking the step toward making a real difference in people’s lives. We encourage you to take the step of giving. Whether it is to an eMite project or to your church or to another charitable organization, take the step and see the difference that you can make. Mr. Burke is correct. Standing on the sidelines because our little seems too small is a great mistake. It’s a mistake in our own lives because it keeps us from sharing in the joy of giving. It’s a mistake in the lives of those we can help because it prevents them from experiencing the love and compassion of others.
Your little is enough! It is enough to give a child sight. It is enough to allow the deaf to hear and babies to be nourished. Your little is enough to give clean water to villages, education in places where there is no classroom and beds where orphans sleep on the ground. It is enough to give hope and put smiles on the faces of people living without hope. Your little is enough if you are willing to give it. That’s the encouragement for all of us today! Our little is enough if we are willing to overcome the belief that it is not. Give Your Mite and see how sufficient it is to accomplish great things in the lives of others.
