"A high-quality teaching workforce—the bedrock of all high-performing education systems—is the single most important factor in improving student learning." Quality teachers are at the heart of developing the talent of the next generation. They underpin the educational investments that will drive growth; they stand at the crossroads of sectoral, service delivery, public financial management, and civil service reform." World Bank, 2015.

This year we came across P4H who is on a mission to tackle the lack of teacher training in underdeveloped countries. Their outreach in Haiti is designed to radically transform the country’s educational system. P4H believes in training People to Transform Nations. They firmly believe that sustainable development requires the empowerment of local leaders. From educators in developing countries to organizations across the globe, P4H Global equips individuals and communities through innovative programs.

For Project 33, we are partnering with P4H and adopting 5 schools in Cap-Haitien that do not have funding for proper teacher training. From those 5 schools, 60 teachers will receive special program training, and thanks to your support, 3,000 students will now receive a quality education.

JULY UPDATES

Over the course of 3 days in late July, the teachers were given the program training, which focuses on foundational education theories, classroom management, and collaborative learning and engagement structures.

There are currently 5 schools in the Cap-Haitian region that are involved in this program, and the atmosphere during training was filled with excitement and energy from 60 teachers! You can watch some of the passion and buzz in the training sessions here.

P4H collects the data that was taken during training, to evaluate pre and post-training scores to see how much the teachers have improved by being involved in the training program.

Once school resumes in the fall, coaching will start back up again. This is where the teachers will be challenged the most. In the meantime, the teachers are placed in a WhatsApp group chat, where they will receive virtual coaching from the P4H staff.

In addition, each teacher is assigned with a coach, who will check in on them monthly throughout the school year and help them reach their professional goals.

Similarly, P4H’s Annual National Educator Professional Development Conference was held at the beginning of August. Educators traveled across the nation to attend the conference in Cap-Haitian. As a result, the conference hosted 400+ teachers. The training included topics such as Academic Rigor, Early Childhood Education Strategies, Parent Engagement, Ethics in Education, and Positive Discipline.

eMite and P4H believe that effective education can help end economic poverty in Haiti.  With these Teacher Training Programs, we hope to improve the quality of education and empower every teacher, leading to higher rates of student success. 3,000 - the number of students’ lives that are changed through better education thanks to your donation and support.

Meet Amady Rodrigue, a professor at Foyer des écoliers. Amady is one of the many teachers that are part of the P4H Training, and shared his opinion about the wonderful program:

“Greetings trainer Joseph, Thank you for giving me the chance to speak with you in this interview about the P4H Training. Sincerely, from the moment I entered into your facility, I knew I was about to receive a beautiful, life-changing training, specifically because of the type of people I saw at your center (the trainers). And I have to say, this was a training that was effective and successful at a very high level. I am incredibly satisfied because the training was 80% practical and 20% theoretical. The trainers put us in an environment where we had to work in small groups, which I will be doing with my students. During the training, I learned a lot of things. What really caught my attention was the collaborative learning strategies, which will help me be a better teacher in my classroom. I truly believe the P4H training will help me manage my classroom more efficiently if I apply this knowledge with my students. Thank you so much!”
