Effective Giving

A recent article written for the National Christian Foundation, Heather Larson, gives a perspective on effective giving and charitable giving in the field through the story of a pool construction project. As a cliff note version, a donor in sincere charity donated funds to build a pool for an orphanage in South America. The pool was a blessing to the orphanage, but due to cultural differences was little used and ended up being a burden for the organization to maintain. Eventually, the pool was converted to a fish pond and is a source of sustainability for the orphanage today.

The author uses the pool to encourage donors to a higher level of effectiveness in generosity. As givers, we should make sure to ask questions, listen to the people on the ground, determine buy-in by the organization being helped, and sufficiency of resources to sustain the projects. We agree wholeheartedly with Heather's assessment of effective giving.

At eMite, the action items outlined in the article are all integrated with our Program Process. Our project coordination staff work through our due diligence and vetting process for every project and come up with the answers to questions like buy-in, sustainability, and long term mission. Our staff is trained to ask questions. We do not enter with ideas. The first question is, how can we help. Is there a place for eMite and our donor community to help our partners to accomplish their mission. That is where we start, and by the time our Program Process is finished, we will have determined if we have a good fit for our partner and our donors.

Our Program Process is a critical component of our organization's overall mission to unite donors and ministry partners in trustworthy, first-class global humanitarian outreach. Because of our program staff's effort and thoroughness, our donor community has the confidence that their charitable giving is making an impact and will do so for many years to come. To experience the eMite process, join our donor community by Giving Your Mite today. #DoGoodGlobally
