Project 22 Update: Meet our Project 22 infield team! We had the honor of joining frontline workers who make breakfast and lunch every day for low-income families struggling to meet their daily needs. Today we celebrate the hard-working women and men who dedicate their time to keep students fed, especially during COVID-19. Shoutout to the CMS Nutrition Service, who helped distribute 1,000 eMite face masks donated by our fantastic giving community! Together we helped provide these heroes with a safe working environment.

Project 22 Insight 6/17/20:
In 2018, according to the U.S. Census Bureau*, 1.4 million North Carolinians lived in poverty, making North Carolina the 15th highest poverty rate state. Unfortunately, 14 percent of North Carolinian’s are still in poverty, living on less than $25,100 a year for a family of four. The same year Mecklenburg County presented a poverty rate of 12,7% and a child poverty rate of 18,10%**.
There is a significant number of families who struggle daily to get ahead. For many children, the idea of attending school represents not only the opportunity to learn but also the place where they will get their only meal of the day. Thank you to everyone who has given to Project 22 - Covered with Care! Your gift is helping COVID Warriors on the frontline who are meeting the daily needs of low-income families.

( How Is Poverty Measured?
Poverty status is determined by comparing total annual family before-tax income to a table of federal poverty thresholds that vary by family size, number of related children, and age of householder. If a family’s income is less than the dollar value of the appropriate threshold, then that family and every individual in it are considered to be in poverty)
Project 22 Insight 6/10/20:
Feeding students is our BUSINESS! Your gift to Project 22- Covered with Care will directly support hundreds of workers and volunteers at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that are distributing breakfast and lunch to low-income families each day.
It is the goal of Child Nutrition Services to provide healthy meals that meet USDA School Meal, and North Carolina recommended standards for food requirements. Even though the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Educations decided to close schools amid Covid-19, the Child Nutrition Services implemented an emergency program and set up nearly 70 mobile distribution sites. Since March 17th, they have served more than 1 million meals to children! #DoGoodGlobally
